connecting to: The Empress

Hi friend! Think of these posts as little bulletin boards on each of the cards, with post-its from different sources and thought bubbles stuck all over. I start each post by copying anything I’ve written down in my personal tarot journal over the years (may be sparse, won’t lie). From there I’ll add to them from time to time. Some posts are more fleshed out than others, but that will balance out in time. If you have different insights or thoughts on a card, I would love for you the share in the comments. ♡

Major Arcana — The Empress — III

A black woman with an afro and crown sits on a throne with cushions all over. She sits in a dip in the earth, surrounded by crystals and the Venus symbol. Her body language is confident and authoritative.

Upright

Tarot Journal Entry: The obvious is that she’s a mother, and she represents the divine feminine. But beyond that, she represents the mind-body connection and being able to be fully present. That way, you can really feel what is right for your (or isn’t), and you can both appreciate and attract beauty. She only does what she loves, and what she loves blooms.

To add to what I had written in my tarot journal, I tend to think of The Empress as the most realized version of the Queen of Pentacles. She has absolutely mastered earth energy: what it means to identify what she values and pour herself into it with unconditional love. How to take care of things, nurture them to completion, respect them and venerate them. How to honor and respect herself, her home and her relationships. She has mastered all of these things and has become the ultimate manifester. She is aware of how powerful her love is, and therefore she is careful where she choose to place her attentions. She values herself, first and foremost, as a “thing” to value and take care of.

Reversals

Tarot Journal Entry: Emptiness. Feeling suffociated and/or needing space.

When I see this card come up in readings, I’m like, OK! Someone’s feeling scattered and depleted. I feel the energy of this card is of feeling harassed, even if that isn’t the intention of anyone involved. The outpouring of energy is coming from such a well-intentioned and loving place — but it’s overwhelming the receiver nonetheless. The advice that comes with The Empress in Reverse is to get back to self-care 101. Get some alone time and embody your hard-won lessons of how to take care of the things you value in your life. Allow yourself to bloom.
